Ultrasound – New Tool For Skin Health and Beauty

What Is Ultrasound Skin Therapy

The easiest definition of ultrasound is sound that is at a frequency too high for human to hear. The frequencies of ultrasound used in beauty care are too high for your pets to hear, either. The advantage of using the high frequency ultrasound employed in beauty care is that the higher the frequency, the lower the energy.

The ultrasound the obstetrician uses to view an unborn child is about 3,000,000 to 5,000,000 vibrations per second. The ultrasound that is used in the new sonic knife technologies that actually break the skin is about 25,000 vibrations per second. Most machines for ultrasound massage of the skin that prepares it absorb skin creams run at 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 vibrations per second. This is high enough for transdermal delivery, but low enough not to injure the skin or the tissues beneath it

What Is Transdermal Delivery

Transdermal delivery is a technique that carries a drug, nutrient, or cosmetic agent through the skin without breaking it. The advantage of transdermal delivery over taking a pill is that the skin-active ingredient does not have to pass through the digestive tract, the liver, and the bloodstream to go where it is needed. It is not diluted or broken down on the way to the skin. The disadvantage, of course, is that the skin is a tough protective barrier that keeps all kinds of substances out, both good and bad.

Artificial Pores

Ultrasound Skin Care works by a process known as cavitation, which can be described as artificial pores. The sound waves resonate with substances between the tough, protein-filled corneocyte cells of the outer layer of skin. Just like a soprano’s high note might shatter a glass, these sound waves shatter cholesterol, water, or ceramides. But they leave skin cells intact, and the pores or passageways that can carry cosmetic ingredients or medications inside the skin only stay open for a few thousandths of a second. Because these pore are less than 11000 of a millimeter wide, they don’t even let bacteria or viruses inside, just the very smaller molecules of the skin care product.

Ultrasound is one of the most effective ways of getting a skin care product inside the skin. Using an ultrasound applicator, tens or even hundreds time more of the healing agents reach the target cells.
