Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing. ~ Mother Theresa
How’s your day been going
Wonderful
A bit rough
Does life seem like too much of a challenge
Well, here’s an easy way to brighten your outlook and your day.
Smile.
Yep, that’s it. Smile.
Not only does it bless those around you, it blesses you.
Don’t believe me Try this experiment.
Stand in front of a mirror. Keep your face relaxed, expressionless. How do you feel
Now, smile. Just smile.
What changed Are your eyes a bit brighter Did your smile suddenly turn into a grin
Do you feel better, a bit happier, just looking at your smile Of course you do! Smiling sends messages to your body, telling it to relax, slow down, enjoy.
Smiling contributes to your health. The Bible tells us that a merry heart does good, like medicine. Medical studies have proven that smiling releases endorphins and boosts your immune system. It reduces stress and lowers your blood pressure. All with a simple smile.
Most people think you need to feel happy before you smile. Actually, if you will make an effort to smile, you will feel happier. If you are self-conscious about your smile for some reason, release those negative thoughts.
You can, of course, practice in front of a mirror to perfect your smile. You should also insure that your teeth are in good shape and clean. Today’s advertising tries to tell you that white teeth are the secret to success. Actually, it’s the SMILE that counts.
Here’s another experiment. Watch people.
All day long, how many people do you see who are truly smiling Most people travel through life looking bored, sad, frustrated, angry or just neutral. Blah. Then they wonder why life is so hard.
Practice smiling at them. Watch the reactions you get. Your smile will entice smiles from others. It’s a gift… a simple gift with far-reaching results.
People respond positively to a smiling face. Your smile causes others to smile back. Then someone else sees that smile and smiles also. You’ve started a chain reaction of joy… just by smiling.
Now, here’s your assignment. Keep smiling. Consciously decide to smile throughout your day. Smile at everyone you meet, whether you know them or not. Smile just because it’s good for you.
Smiles and laughter are an instant antidote to the doldrums. As the song says, Lighten up your face with gladness, hide every trace of sadness… you’ll find that life is still worthwhile if you’ll just smile.
